James Metsger • Lead Pastor
James talked Melissa into marrying him in 2001. Since then, Caedmon (11), Noah (9), and Amelia (4) have rounded out their starting five. James joined the staff team at Ren in 2007. He loves preaching the word & walking with and caring for people. If he’s not scratching sermon notes on his dry erase board he’s sipping coffee with a friend asking, “How are you really doing?” When James isn’t at the office he’s at home chasing a soccer ball with his kids or chasing after his wife. He enjoys reading a good book—especially if there are lots of pictures, telling his daughter, “It happened again! You’re even prettier today than yesterday”, or wondering/lamenting how he ended up owning a Jack Russell Terrier.
Mike Farnsley • Pastor of Discipleship & Administration
Mike had the privilege of marrying Sarah back in 2009. Since then, God has grown their family to include two sons (Miles and Silas) and a daughter (Adalia Kate). He is a graduate of Taylor University and is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte. Mike joined the staff team at Ren in March 2015 and brings energy & passion for discipling people of all ages. He loves teaching God’s Word creatively, helping people follow Jesus together & challenging the Church to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead to make gospel-centered connections with friends, neighbors & co-workers. When Mike isn’t doing ministry or seminary homework, you’ll find him with his wife & kids throwing frisbees, rocking out on piano and guitar or watching sports with a Dr. Pepper and/or a cup of coffee nearby.
Charity Helms • Worship Leader
Charity has been married to her husband Tim for 22 years. They have 4 awesome kids — Sam is in college, Emeline is a senior in high school, Libby is a sophomore, and Annie is in 4th grade. In 2015, Charity joined the team at Renaissance as worship leader. She has no greater joy than to sing at the top of her lungs about Jesus and His redeeming work. Her love for Jesus and music are combined to inspire and encourage people to worship and love Him more deeply and freely. When not crafting set lists or rehearsing with the worship team, Charity can be found teaching voice and piano, connecting over coffee with friends and other worship leaders, doing concerts with her musical husband and kids, assisting at her kids’ school, or doing Bible study. Life is full, and God is good!
